Abstract

In this introduction, we begin by providing a general overview of the development and implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). We then describe the structure and content of the volume, first by introducing the individual contributions of each author, and secondly by drawing together a number of important and cross-cutting themes that tie these contributions together. We conclude with something a bit different, by spotlighting the reflections of one of the editors of the book, Rosemary Kayess, who is Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Rosemary provides a unique, first-hand perspective on the challenges and promises of implementing the CRPD.
