Abstract
The domestications of animals and plants are major processes in human history that occurred in numerous places across the globe at different times in the past. Different pathways to domestication can be characterized for animals (for example, commensal, prey, and directed) and plants (for example, sexual and asexual). The character of domesticatory relationships between people and an animal or a plant is often complex, gradational, and nonlinear. As a result, domestication is a process that can be difficult to delineate in time and space.
