Dream Chaser Nose Cone Arc Jet Testing in SCIROCCO Plasma Wind Tunnel

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Conference Paper › peer-review

Abstract

An arc jet test campaign on three different test articles was performed in SCIROCCO Plasma Wind Tunnel to qualify and characterize the high temperature performance of components of the Dream Chaser Thermal Protection System (TPS), including a full-scale technology demonstrator of the actual flight vehicle nose configuration, the Nose Cone, which achieved a maximum stagnation temperature of ~1540°C after being exposed to hypersonic flow for over 12 min.
