Abstract
This chapter discusses due process protections afforded to persons subject to unilateral targeted sanctions in the EU, US and UK. Based on an analysis of respective legislation and case law, it considers how unilateral targeted sanctions are imposed and on what grounds their imposition can be challenged in court. In doing so, the chapter highlights the tension between the essentially punitive effect of targeted sanctions on the one hand and their non-criminal, extrajudicial nature on the other hand.
