Abstract

A methodology is presented for modeling water consumption using temperature and rainfall data as principal inputs. A model is developed for the Newcastle region (Australia) using data over three years, the model being linear, and reflecting seasonal variations and population growth. Over about 18 months water usage restrictions were imposed, and the model is used to predict what the consumption would have been had there been no restrictions. In this way, the effectiveness of different restriction regimes is evaluated.
