Abstract
An effective spin Hamiltonian for the two-band Hubbard model of the high-Tc materials is derived by a canonical transformation that was calculated and summed up to infinite order. The spin interaction is obtained to be of Kondo type rather than t-J. We also discuss briefly the impact of the obtained result on understanding the spin gap.
