Abstract

Hospital emergency rooms are being used more and more as major suppliers of health care, especially for poor people. How prevalent are psychosocial problems among their patients and how do emergency rooms handle such problems? These and other questions are dealt with in this article, which reports on a study of the use of the emergency room of a hospital in a small university town.
