Abstract
Linked Data and the encoding of data as RDF are becoming increasingly popular in research focusing on ancient world data. An example of this is a recently completed PhD thesis (Nurmikko-Fuller, 2015), which has shown that literary Sumerology, a nested niche within Assyriology, is in a position to be relevant to ongoing development of semantic web technologies. The rich philological material has inspired the design of new ontological structures (frameworks used in Computer Science to capture the inherent entities and relationships of a domain), and can be used to test the robustness and expressivity of existing upperlevel ones
