Excitation functions for 24Mg(16O, 16O')24Mg* (O≤Ex≤8.4 MeV) scattering at forward angles

Abstract

Excitation functions for the scattering of 16O from 24Mg with excitation energies (Ex) up to 8.4 MeV are reported for theta lab=19.5 degrees and 33.6 MeV<or=E CM<or=49.2 MeV. Strong energy dependence is observed for states above 8 MeV excitation. Coupled-channels calculations, which predict smooth energy variations, give good agreement with the data only for Ex<8 MeV.
