    Abstract

Experimental measurements of the excitation of ns J=1 fine-structure levels for some noble gases by positron impact have recently been performed. We present here calculations of the cross-sections for excitation of such levels in krypton and xenon. We used a relativistic distorted wave method with multi-configuration Dirac-Fock wave functions for atomic states. The results obtained showed good agreement with the experimental results for excitation to the [3/2] level in xenon near threshold.
