Abstract

Absolute cross sections were measured for the excitation of the 4s J=1 fine-structure states of argon by positron impact. As such, previous calculations in the excitation of the unresolved 4s state represented in LS coupling in a nonrelativistic distorted-wave approximation. This paper repeats the calculation to obtain cross sections for the excitation of the individual fine-structure levels.
