    Abstract

In this work an approach to the failure theory of thermoplastic composites will be presented that is validated by experiments. A custom built experimental rig allows the composites to experience different deformation modes. A DIC system mounted under the deforming samples captured the strain evolution during loading on the entire sample geometry until failure. A failure theory will be presented based on the evolution of fibre strains as a function of deformation modes.
