    Abstract

The fundamental limits to intensity noise suppression that can be achieved by two common techniques of electronic feedback and laser injection locking are discussed. A hybrid system which combines injection locking and electronic control to suppress the intensity noise of the laser is presented. It is necessary to injection lock a laser for reasons initially independent of the intensity noise of the laser. When injection locking is unavoidable, the technical problems associated with reducing the intensity noise of the injection locked laser are most easily overcome by building an electronic intensity control loop. The fundamental limit for this system is the same as for a 'simple' electronically stabilized lasers.
