Abstract
Trust is an essential element for the financial development and growth of the electronic marketplace. The lack of an
effective means of redress to settle online disputes forms a challenging barrier to establishing trust in the online economy.
Accordingly, the creation of effective dispute resolution mechanisms is key to creating trust, fostering e-commerce
transactions, and even stimulating market growth. Nevertheless, traditional means of enforcement are incapable of
enabling sufficient trust in e-commerce transactions.
In this paper it is assessed whether Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) mechanisms can provide the answers for the effective
settlement of commercial disputes in the digital world.
