    Abstract

I take the paradigmatic case of first-person consciousness to be when a nurse says that a patient regained consciousness after surgery. The patient does not need to have memory or other advanced cognitive functions. But she is online, so to saywe have good reasons to believe that the question what it is like for her to be is not empty.
