Abstract
This Forum explores new directions in the history of sexology. The contributions included here draw upon the histories of gender and sexuality, science, medicine, law and the body. The featured papers analyse shifting theoretical conceptualisations of the 'normal', the role of gender, age and able-bodiedness in medical-scientific contexts, and representations of gendered violence in sexual scientific and criminological contexts. This co-authored introduction positions these discussions in relation to new directions in the history and historiography of sexology, exploring the ways in which gender has been consistently been overlooked in this field.
