What happens to the fragments that fall outside the frame of institutional memory? In this ongoing body of work, I care for the discarded remains of an early 20th-century photographic archive originally produced by Swedish Missionaries in the Congo: broken glass plate negatives, annotated scraps, collapsing boxes—materials deemed unworthy of institutional digitisation.
These analogue traces resist the flattening effects of digital reproduction. Their surfaces bear the marks of time, use, and neglect, offering quiet testimony to the lives and afterlives of colonial imagery. Rather than restoring or completing the archive, I focus on what remains unresolved—attending to the silences, absences, and material excesses that haunt its edges.
