    Abstract

This book illustrates the breadth and diversity of culture-in-health research. Our studies span the distal to proximal determinants of health from the global, national, national subpopulation, and village to the individual body. They range from small but temporally extensive ethnographic studies in the highlands of New Guinea to desk-top, or secondary data, analyses of national cultural trends. Geographically, the book's contents traverse southeast Asia to islands in the mid Pacific Ocean, and they encompass enormous demographic variety from millions of people to hundreds.
