Abstract
gem-Dihalocyclopropanes are readily prepared by dihalocarbene addition to the corresponding alkene. These compounds have considerable potential as building blocks in chemical synthesis, especially of natural products. Particular applications include the intramolecular trapping of allylic cations by hateroatom-centered nucleophiles and intermolecular trapping of allylic cations by carbon-centered nucleophiles.
