Abstract
The use of Lamb shift of multilevel atoms in inhomogeneous electromagnetic structures was analyzed to study the inverse-opal photonic crystals (PC). It was found that the real photon processes play a key role in inhomogeneous dielectric structures. Photonic crystals could modify the photonic density of state (DOS) and local DOS and enhanced the quantum interference effects and non-markovian effects. The results provide a deep insight into the theory of spontaneous emission in PC and the development of thresholdless lasers.
