Abstract

The analysis of gray spatial solitons in photorefractive media is presented. The stability properties of such solitons are also described. It is emphasized that the analysis holds for any saturable nonlinearity for which the index change is proportional to 1/(1 + |U|2) or to |U|2/(1 + |U∝2), where U is the normalized envelope of the optical beam.
