    Abstract

Our aim with this volume has been to map out fresh initiatives in the study of political and administrative turnover which can test and refine existing interpretations of transitions and successions. The project is partly empirical and partly theoretical. The empirical dimension is about extending the evidence base and case material available to students of transitions and successions. The theoretical dimension is about assessing existing interpretations of political and administrative turnover against the findings emerging from this set of fresh investigations of change in transitions and successions.
