Abstract
In September 2014, the first Fijian election in eight years since the military takeover of December 2006 took place. Fiji went to the polls using the new open list proportional representation electoral system introduced in the 2013 Constitution. In the new parliament of 50 seats, The Fiji First (FF) party led by the Prime Minister obtained a land-slide victory of 32 seats with the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) and National Federation Party (NFP) securing 15 and 3 seats respectively.
