    Abstract

    This is the second of two linked In Briefs looking at undersea internet cables in the Pacific region. Numerous Pacific Island countries are keen to improve their connectivity through this submarine infrastructure. There has been a substantial increase in deployment of internet cables in the Pacific region in recent years, some of which have been funded as aid projects. More are planned. This In Brief discusses the intersection of cybersecurity and geopolitics, before outlining risks to the reliability of the cables.
