Abstract

The Australian Journal of Asian Law community joins colleagues around the world in mourning the unexpected loss of Professor Franz von Benda-Beckmann in January 2013. Franz had been a valued advisor to AJAL from its inception. We feel the loss keenly because plans were well advanced to bring Franz and his wife, Keebet von Benda-Beckmann, to Australia in 2014 as distinguished visitors, following their formal retirement from Max Planck Institute in Halle in December 2012.
