    Abstract

The Attorney-General of Australia, the Hon Robert McClelland MP, requested that the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) inquire and report on the treatment of family violence in Commonwealth laws, including child support and family assistance law, immigration law, employment law, social security law, superannuation law and privacy provisions. As an aspect of social security law, income management forms part of the ALRCs inquiry. Income management is an arrangement under the Social Security (Administration) Act 1999 (Cth) by which a proportion of a persons social security and family payments is quarantined to be spent only on particular goods and services, such as food, housing, clothing, education and health care
