    Abstract

Measurements on Pyrex glass whose surface was made smooth by melting were reported. The molecular smoothness of fused glass surfaces allows simultaneous measurement of long-range forces and contact deformations. The measurements were done with a novel SFA that utilizes a capacitor to measure displacement.
