Abstract

Fans of the Houston Rockets basketball team had front- row seats to the coercive power of the Chinese government in October 2019, when the teams general manager, Daryl Morey, tweeted his support for pro- democracy protestors in Hong Kong. Morey quickly deleted the tweet and apologized, as did the National Basketball Association (NBA), but the damage was done.
