Introduction

Over the past decade, a type of scholarship known as “feminist legal theory” or “feminist jurisprudence” has begun to appear in law journals, at legal conferences, and in law school classrooms. Feminist legal theory draws from the experiences of women and from critical perspectives developed within other disciplines to offer powerful analyses of the relationship between law and gender and new understandings of the limits of, and opportunities for, legal reform. This theory, as a body, represents one of today’s most significant challenges to contemporary law and legal institutions.
