    Abstract

    Indonesia and Thailand are two of Asia’s most important economies. With a population of 275 million, Indonesia is a member of G20, and by a clear margin, the largest economy in Southeast Asia. With 72 million people, Thailand is somewhat smaller, but in 2022, these countries were ranked third and fourth respectively in terms of gross national product among the emerging economies of Asia. However, neither Thailand nor Indonesia has experienced a smooth trajectory of economic growth over the last few decades, and on both countries, the Asian financial crisis of 1997 had dire effects.
