Abstract
This article uses the lens of localiza-tion to focus on John Marston’s pioneering body of work on Cambodia and mainland Southeast Asia. Looking beyond one-to-one translation, we study the ways that Marston’s oeuvre has been localized into Spanish, not only during the production and editing process, but also during the reading process once it reaches the hands of Hispanophone readers. We trace the ways in which the localization of Marston’s work has evolved over the course of his career, shifting from earlier books that provided Hispanophone readers a glimp-se into discussions in Anglophone Southeast Asian Studies, to later books that were more specifically geared towards the Spanish-speaking audience.
