Abstract

The present book of the Jvari-type churches aims to consider the artistic monuments which are proof of the harmonious completion of the quest of an entire era. With this group of construction, Georgian architecture reached its first period of flourishing after about two and a half centuries of internal growth and adaptation to new tasks of Christian church architecture. These monuments are of a classical art style that has completely achieved the development of plastic contours and tectonically lucid forms. This development is fundamentally different from that of early Byzantine art, which - since the Justinian era - had a Baroque appearance.
