Abstract
This article treats the early history of the small community of Russian workers in Ipswich, Queensland, who formed an association in 1913. Mutually hostile splinter groups formed in 1918, when the community was deeply involved in the Red Flag Riots. In 1924, one of the community leaders, A. Kochetygov (Lubimov), departed for Soviet Russia, taking with him the associations minute books and other documents, which have since been held in the archive of the Communist International (Comintern) in Moscow.
