    Abstract

    This chapter focuses on knowledge base of teaching English to young learners (EYL). It examines participants’ views of a crucial set of knowledge and skills needed for teachers to teach EYL effectively. It starts with a literature review which addresses the gap in the discussion of knowledge base of teaching EYL. The chapter continues with a research methods section to discuss the selection of participants, methods to collect data, as well as procedures of data analysis. Next, the chapter presents findings and discusses them in light of relevant literature, followed by a conclusion. The chapter argues the centrality of children in knowledge base in teaching EYL. It provides directions for incorporating elements of the knowledge base into teacher education, such as reorientation of preservice education and the strengthening of teaching practicum.
