Abstract
The South Korean President Park Geun-Hye's recent move to replace, by early 2017, privately published middle and high school history textbooks with a single, state-authored history textbook system has rocked Korean society, with massive protests calling for her resignation. These protests, rallied in Seoul, initially drew some 130,000 people (on November 14) and again 14,000 (on December 5), resulting in the largest antigovernment protests in several years.
