    Abstract

Mossmarken, the village where Jansson's novel is set, is in the remote wetlands in the north of Sweden. The village is located at the edge of the marshes, where, during the Iron Age, sacrifices were made to the gods, even human sacrifices. The biologist Nathalie arrives in the country to study peatlands. Shortly after her arrival, she finds a man fainted in the swamp, with pockets full of gold - just as happened in the ancient human sacrifice. A pit is dug into the mud, which vanishes a day later. While the police investigate, several bodies begin to emerge. Maya Linde, artist and police photographer, who will later lead the police to investigate the truth, becomes together with Nathalie, protagonist of the novel. "Bad things happen in Mossmarken ... and now that Nathalie is back home, it looks like it's happening again. A dark and brilliant suspense novel from a new fantastic voice in international literature. "
