    Abstract

Also in first person, The arrival of the Missives included the very formal letters sent by Mr. Tiller to his pupil and narrator, Miss Shirley Fern. The use of formal expressions and appellations, references to the war and to the wound of Master Tilley tell us that the novel is not set in modern times. Yet, the descriptions of the wound, of the landscape, the futuristic vision that one breathes, do not suggest a period past but dystopian, I would dare to say. The simple and clear style, as opposed to the suggestive and obscure writing of the narrating voice of Jill Dawson, suggests that the narrating protagonist of Aliya Whitely, is a young girl who looks to the future with confident eyes.
