Abstract
Audio Set, a data set and ontology of sound events created by Google's Sound Understanding team was created from millions of YouTube videos. This essay describes the origin of Audio Set and probes the shift in spectatorship as YouTube's audience is no longer humans on the Internet but machine listening algorithms.
