Abstract
Projektet Les Archives Suédoises tar avstamp i lådor med glasnegativ från de svenska missionsfälten i dåvarande Fristaten Kongo, senare Belgiska Kongo 1890–1930. Tillsammans med den kongolesiske skulptören Freddy Tsimba, och en grupp studenter från Nationella Konsthögskolan i Kinshasa öppnar konstnärerna Anna Ekman och Cecilia Järdemar upp lådorna och fotografierna. Bilderna återuppstår i vår samtid, i en serie nya möten i Demokratiska Republiken Kongo och Sverige.
The project Les Archives Suédoises takes boxes of glass plate negatives as its starting point – materials from the Swedish missions in what was then the Congo Free State, which would later become the Belgian Congo in 1890–1930. The artists open up the boxes and photographs together with the Congolese sculptor Freddy Tsimba and a group of students from the National Institute of Arts in Kinshasa. The images re-emerge in our time in a series of new encounters in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sweden.
