Abstract

The lifetime of the b¹π_u(ν = 1) state in ¹⁴N₂ was determined. A direct time-domain pump-probe lifetime measurement yielded a lifetime of 2.61 ns. The studies showed that a separate calculation of the predissociation lifetime is possible. The measured lifetime was found to be consistent with the coupled-channel calculations.
