Abstract
The exhibition featured the work of 21 Australian and five American contemporary glass artists. This was the first American museum exhibition dedicated to the wide spectrum of Australian studio glass and the basis of the exhibition was the connections between artists and institutions in Australia and the Pacific Northwest. This museum exhibition highlighted the tradition of innovation manifest within australian glass over the past 25 years. The exhibition focused on works created within the past 5 years as the medium has rapidly matured. 4 new practice-led works were contributed to this major museum and touring exhibition that articulated, for the first time, the lineage and impact of studio glass practice from Australia. The exhibition was curated by Vicki Harper and was supported by the Tacoma Museum of Glass with an extensive catalogue. The exhibition toured to two other museum venues in the US: Wichita Art Museum, Wichita, KS: May 17 - September 14, 2014 and Palm Springs Art Museum, Palm Springs, CA: October 18, 2014 - January 25, 2015. Vicki Halper, curator of Links: Australian Glass and the Pacific Northwest, notes, Australians excel in fused and cold worked glass, which are not as prevalent in the Pacific Northwest. This exhibition is long overdue given the excellence of the work being produced in Australia, and the interest in it shown by important American museums and collectors, states Susan Warner, Executive Director of Museum of Glass. The museum is proud to have organized this exhibition.
