Lo Spazio sacro delle scrittrici (The sacred space of writers)

An important book, with portraits composed of words and images, faces that hide behind a book or leave the page and the room. Bodies and proud minds. The book opens with a Roman text, and closes with "The sense of a room. Is there an Italian feminine literature with its specificity?", considerations on writing and gender. The introduction of Alessio Romano, rightly entitled "The story of the room" (6-10) tells the story of two male intellectuals, one photographer, the other writer. For years Romano has read and studied only great male authors. Then he reads the classic writings of female authors. Finally, inspired by the famous 'booklet' A Room of One's Own (1929) by Virginia Woolf, an indispensable text to understand the intricate, arduous and painful path of who is a woman, seeks independence and wants to 'also' write and be recognized as a writer. The 'room', of course, is a metaphor that represents a physical, mental and literary space, independent and free. And that, now maybe it may seem superfluous, but still for many women it is not.
