    Abstract

Cluster-assembled carbon nanofoam produced by high-repetition-rate laser ablation of graphite in Ar exhibits numerous unique properties including extremely low bulk density, large surface area and DC conductivity similar to that of amorphous diamond-like carbon films. In addition it exhibits para- and ferromagnetic behavior measurable up to 90 K. We present preliminary in-situ spectroscopic studies of the laser ablated plume during creation of the carbon nanofoam material.
