Abstract
Vera is a ritual dance accompanied by singing, found only in Rongga, central Flores, Indonesia. While regarded by the Rongga people as their unique identity, Vera is losing its appeal with the younger generation. It is a threatened practice. In the current context of regional autonomy, decentralization, and revival of culture and tradition in Manggarai, this chapter discusses the transmission of Vera as a case study outlining the problems faced by minority ethnic groups like Rongga in maintaining their culture, tradition and language in modern Indonesia.
