Abstract
The history of the Mambo Clothing label, and its passage from subcultural underground to globally successful brand, is used a case study on the formation of a distinctively Australian version of 'nobrow' culture. In Mambo designs, links between surf culture, alternative politics, Ocker humour, and activist graphics reveal a critical consciousness underpinning popular streetwear.
