Abstract
Interest in dynamic wetting phenomena has been increasing. One such issue that has attracted attention is the occurrence of a Marangoni 'precursor'. The work reported here demonstrates that this complex nonequilibrium situation can be understood on the same thermodynamic basis that applies at equilibrium. The dynamic dewetting transitions are accounted for through the Gibbs adsorption principle of classical capillary.
