    Abstract

Indonesian cinema has now become one of the subjects of study interest, not only by critics and academics in the country, but also from abroad. The richness of the study, theme, point of view, and also the approach is evident in the journal Asian Cinema Vol. 21, No. 2, Fall / Winter 2012 whose translation is in your hands. Here is a book that fills the scarcity of books around academically and critically peeled Indonesian films. Edited by Khoo Gaik Cheng (Australian National University of Singapore), this book offers a diversity of ideas and studies that question the concept of "National Film" (Thomas Barker, Charlotte Setijadi-Dunn), reviews of film and Islam (Eric Sasono, Katinka van Heeren, Intan Paramaditha), documentary (Budi Irawanto), horror film (Veronika Kusuma), up to the discussion of young director Edwin (Khoo Gaik Cheng), and Joko Anwar (Nosa Normanda). They also come from various places, La Trobe and Leiden University to Airlangga University and Binus International.
