    Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of Section 3 of The Palgrave Handbook of Chinese Language Studies. The selection of seven studies investigates how the Chinese meaning universe intersects and interacts with other linguistic and cultural traditions through a range of media, such as subtitling, and across various domains, such as political, legal, and literary. Placing Chinese languages in a global context and examining how their meaning and acts of meaning-making interact with other linguacultural spheres through the lens of translation, the studies in this section broaden our understanding of the possibilities and challenges in the global circulation of texts, ideas, and signs.
