Abstract
The decoherence in the ground state hyperfine transitions in Pr 3+:Y2SiO5 was investigated. A method for increasing hyperfine coherence times was demonstrated by the application of a specific external magnetic field. The magnitude and direction of the applied magnetic field was such that the transition's linear Zeeman shift about this field was zero. Results show that a phase memory time of 82 ms can be achieved for Pr3+:Y2SiO5 by using an external magnetic field to minimize the transition sensitivity to magnetic field fluctuations.
