abstract = "The mixing enhancement effect of repeated laser sparks in a scramjet combustor is numerically investigated in this paper. Focus is put on the differences between the effect a single laser spark has on the mixing and the effect of repeated laser sparks. It is found that repeated laser sparks show synergistic effects and can enhance mixing beyond that resulting from a single laser spark. The main mixing enhancement pathway stems from a spark-disturbance-induced volume increase of the mixture, and to a lesser extent from an improvement of the average mixture quality. Although the volume enhancement can be predicted with good accuracy by the single spark result, the quality improvement is underestimated and the overall mixing enhancement is slightly underestimated. The underestimation of the quality of the mixture stems from less diffusion in later sparks compared to the first spark.",
